The Story of the Shepherds | Luke 2:8-20

I’m sure just about everyone here can quote at least the first stanza of this famous poem…. “Twas the night before Christmas…. and all through the house…not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.” The setting is Christmas Eve and a family is settling down to sleep when the father is roused from bed. Santa has arrived, he lands on the roof, enters through the chimney. And there by the fire place the father
witnesses Santa fill all the stockings, then depart up the chimney. And as Santa flies off into the night sky, he says, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.” It’s a creative, imaginative poem that has stood the test of time and evokes all kinds of feelings nostalgia. But it’s only good for the Christmas season and serves no purpose in growing us in the grace and knowledge of our savior.
