A Profound Humanity | John 11:28-44

Most of the time in Reformed circles, we like to talk about the Divinity of Christ, especially when Christ makes the statement, “I am the Resurrection and the life.” Now we will indeed talk about that in the coming weeks as we continue into all of Christ’s “I am” statements. But today as we I want us to draw our hearts and our minds to a moment of what I would call profound humanity found in the story of the raising of Lazarus. Unlike other instances of Miracles that he performs, this isn’t a grandiose summoning for all to hear, but a gentle invitation, extending His presence and comfort in their moment of grief. Mary’s response to this call is nothing short of a beautiful portrait of faith meeting human despair.
