I Am the Door | John 10:1-10
Today we’re looking at the 3rd of the 7 “I Am” statements of Jesus in John’s gospel. When Lou opened this portion of the series, he told us, these statements are a callback to Exodus 3:14 when God introduced himself to Moses with the expression “I am who I am.” In using this expression, Jesus is emphatically identifying himself with YHWH of the OT and staking claim on the eternality, self-existence and changelessness of God’s nature:
1 We’ve already discussed Jesus as the bread of life (comes/hungry –
Believe/Thirst), and the fact he’s “The light of the world” (follow me will not walk in darkness). Today, we’ll discover he’s the door and what that means for us.
