Grace and the Gift of Lament | Psalm 42 and 43
Today, we want to discuss another grace gift given to us in prayer; the gift of lament. When we utilize this gift, we give voice to our pain, grief, struggle and in so doing we’re able to tap into the rich reservoir of God’s grace in our time of need. And we’re reminded that grace is not only found in moments of joy but also in the raw honesty of our pain and suffering. Today’s text; Psalm 42-43 is considered one Psalm. And we’ll seek to follow the contours of the Psalmist’s lament: we’ll hear the longing of his soul, try to get a good feel for his discouragement and note his transformation from uncertainty to confidence in the character of God. Then discuss how we can embrace this gift of lament.
